The Thinking Game

A film I genuinely hope every one of you will watch.

This film is not required, and it is not graded. But I want to be unusually clear: I really, really recommend it to every student in this class. It shows the curiosity, uncertainty, persistence, and teamwork behind a scientific breakthrough—things an equation alone cannot show.

Why I am recommending it

Engineering is more than obtaining the right answer.

Research begins before the answer exists.

The film follows people choosing a hard question, living with uncertainty, and deciding what evidence is strong enough to change their minds.

Breakthroughs are built through feedback.

A model produces a result; experiments expose what is missing; the team revises the model. That loop of prediction, evidence, and correction is deeply engineering.

Intelligence still has to meet the physical world.

AI may choose, infer, or plan. Control systems address the companion question: how does a real physical system respond, and how can that response become reliable?

This is not a documentary about the Laplace transform. It is a film about why we learn difficult tools in the first place: to ask better questions, describe systems more clearly, and build things that did not exist before.
